SMbA Makes Local Donations c/o Carla Adamek Insurance Agency

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

ServiceMaster by Ayotte recently participated in the 2014 MIIAB (Minnesota Inependent Insurance Agents & Brokers) Convention.  During this event a drawing was held for each participant to register for a $200 charitable donation to be given to the organization of their choice by each participating franchisee.  ServiceMaster by Ayotte drew local agent Carla Adamek.  Today, SMbA owner, Beth Ayotte Naumann, and Sales Representative Paul Heppner presented Carla her check(s).

A big congrats not only to Carla but to the charitable organizations she chose to support – The Lonsdale Fire Department and The Jameson House.  We are honored to help support your mission of service to our local communities!

ServiceMaster by Ayotte Provides Poison Prevention Tips

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

March 16, 2014 marked the official start of Poison Prevention Week! According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, they received over 3 million calls in 2012, 2.2 million of those calls were about poison exposure and consumption. That’s a lot of phone calls! So, we’d like to take a moment to provide you and your family with some great poison prevention tips. For more information, please visit the source links provided below.

Quick Tips:

  • Properly label ALL hazardous materials and medications.
  • Teach children to always ask an adult before touching, drinking, or eating anything.
  • DON’T refer to medication as candy.
  • Hang the Poison Control Center’s number in an easily accessible/visible place: 1-800-222-1222.

  • Keep all medication out of reach of children and animals. Keep all medication in child-proof containers.
  • NEVER mix medications without a physicians permission.
  • NEVER take expired medication. Expired medication can be harmful.
  • Heat can sometimes break down the proteins in certain medications. Make sure you follow the proper storage directions on the label.
  • NEVER take the label off of your medications.
  • Always give the correct dose and the required time. If you miss a dosage, consult your doctor. Do not double up on medication without a physicians consent.
  • Do not mix medication with food or drink without consulting your physician.

Laundry Room

  • Keep all laundry products out of reach of children and animals.
  • Always keep the product in it’s original container (i.e. DON’T put liquid detergent capsules in Tupperware). NEVER remove labels from containers.
  • Read product labels before use. Pay close attention to “Caution” or “Warning” statements.
  • Immediately clean up any spills.
  • Set aside a special time to do laundry to eliminate distractions.
  • Dispose of products properly. NEVER reuse laundry product containers for storage of other materials.

Kitchen & Garage

  • NEVER mix cleaning products together. A mixture of chemicals can produce harmful gases.
  • Store cleaning, fertilizers, and pesticides in their original containers. Do NOT remove labels.
  • Do not reuse containers. (i.e. don’t use a kitty litter container to store pet food).
  • Keep all drawers and closets property locked with child/pet proof safety devices. Or, store products above counter level.
  • Read and follow product labels.
  • Do NOT allow your children/animals into the yard or kitchen immediately after using unsafe cleaning/fertilizing products.
  • Do NOT store extra toxic chemicals in your household. Depose of them immediately.

Blizzard Conditions…Again!

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

It seems that we are getting no reprieve from Jack Frost this winter.  Just this morning, the National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning in both Rice and Steele counties in effect starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. thru 6 a.m. Friday February 21st.  You would never expect this after our weather yesterday and the way the sun is still shinning today.  It is exactly this pattern however, the sun and warmer temperatures followed by a quick freeze and even snow, that cause the season’s most undesirable outcome – Ice Dams!   And tomorrow and Friday are going have the perfect recipe for added damage and Ice Dams.

There are some ways homeowners can temporary cure their Ice Dams.  Roy Barnhart of This Old House says this.  However, if a large dam has formed, consider having it professionally removed.  Don’t let Ice Dams get you down, Call ServiceMaster by Ayotte – Specializing in safely steam cleaning your ice dam worries away.  507.366.7149 or toll free at 877.945.0993

Water Quality Month – Water Conservation | ServiceMaster by Ayotte

Monday, August 5th, 2013

water imageHow much water do you use a day? When I think about it, I try to use very little. I keep my showers short and turn off the water while I’m brushing my teeth. But, according to the EPA, families use about 300 gallons of water a day. 300 gallons! That’s a lot of water.

Most of the water we use comes from sinks, dishwashers, showers, and automatic washers. But, we also use a lot of water when we clean. Think about it. If you’re using an old mop to wash your kitchen floor, you’re probably filling up a 3 gallon bucket to do so! When you go to clean out your bathroom, do you use a lot of water to scrub the bathtub? The bathroom floor? The sink? With the average person using about 98 gallons of water a day, I can’t help but wonder how much of that water we consume while we clean.

So, in honor of water quality month, I’ve put together a few tips on how to conserve water when you’re cleaning at home.

  • Use as little water as possible. Well, that goes without saying. But, remember that 3 gallon bucket I talked about earlier? Using only 1 gallon of water will still make your floor sparkle. I promise.
  • Don’t leave the facet running. If you’re washing dishes or cleaning off your kitchen counter, make sure to turn the facet off. Running facets and toilets waste a large percentage of our water.
  • Soak dirty dishes. Instead of letting your hard-to-clean dishes rinse underneath hot water, let them soak in the sink. If you leave them there long enough in soapy water, all of that grime will wash off.
  • Don’t dispose of toxic cleaning materials down the drain. This doesn’t mean they’re safe to dump down the toilet or in the yard, either. You should treat cleaning materials as hazardous waste. In order to dispose of them, contact your local county waste department. They’ll tell you where you can safely throw them away.
  • Sweep your driveway, don’t spray it down with the hose. If your driveway is getting a little dirty, it makes sense to just hose it down, but that consumes a lot of water. Instead, try using a broom to sweep away the dirt.
  • Make sure the dishwasher is full before you use it. If you’re constantly washing half loads of dishes, you’re consuming twice as much water. Just wait until the dishwasher is full before you turn it on.

ServiceMaster by Ayotte Hosts 3rd Annual Blood Drive | Northfield, MN

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

ServiceMaster by Ayotte is hosting our 3rd Annual American Red Cross Community Blood Drive on Monday April 22nd, 2013 from 1 – 6 p.m. at our office, located at 450 Armstrong Road, Northfield, MN.

We encourage all of our clients, associates and employees to consider the impact your donation can have.  New this year – all presenting donors will receive a coupon for $50 off any service!!

Following are some important facts about the importance of donating blood:

  • Blood products are being distributed to hospitals as quickly as they are coming in.  All blood types are currently needed to help maintain sufficient supplies.  Eligible donors with O positive and negative, B negative and A negative blood types are encouraged to donate double red cells where available.
  • Type O negative blood, the universal blood type, is always in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations.  Type O negative donors can make the difference between an adequate supply and a shortage.
  • Each year, nearly 5 million people need blood transfusions.  Thanks to dedicated volunteer blood and platelet donors, the American Red Cross can support patients at approximately 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country as the single largest blood supplier in the United States.

For more information on our upcoming Blood Drive or on ServiceMaster by Ayotte, call 877.945.0993 or visit
